Post by RincewindAccording to my GNU Weather Report Applet, which is usually pretty
URL? ;)
Not applicable, its a linux taskbar app that tells me this about itself:
The Weather Report applet downloads weather information from the U.S
National Weather Service (NWS) servers, including the Interactive Weather
Information Network (IWIN). You can use Weather Report to display current
weather information and weather forecasts on your computer.

Early mist and low cloud then sunny spells. Becoming hot with risk of
isolated thunderstorms later. Maximum temperature 29 deg C (84 deg F).
Sounds similar to here's forecast :)
Post by RincewindI wonder what height it will be at and how big it will look as it
passes over? The orbit is 122 nautical miles high, so if it's reached
that height by the time it passes, I guess it will just look like two
brightish(?) stars.
That in itself, moving at the speed they will be, will be unusual :)
Indeed, 17,000 mph! I think I'll use a tripod and just leave the shutter
open to try and capture the track until just before the zenith and then
try to get a decent single shot straight upwards. There's a good spot
nearby with a clear view to the west horizon.
Post by PonderPost by RincewindHeh heh, I remember my dad taking me out to see Sputnik 1 in 1957(I
think it was the booster we could see, not the actual satellite). We
listened to the 'beep beep', direct, on the radio too!
Nice one :)
Yes, and there was a good comet around about the same time, but I can't
remember the name. A quick search suggests either Arend-Roland or Mrkos.
It was quite big and plainly visible to the naked eye. Really impressive
through binoculars.
