It certainly seems alive ;-)
I think that's because at some stage the ntl.* groups somehow leaked out
onto the open net and became established as groups. ISTR it was possible
to read them outside of the ntl network but if you posted to them the
posts didn't propagate inside the ntl network. So it was closed shop for
posting but not for reading.
